Karuna CrossWorks

Karuna comes from the Sanskrit word meaning “Mercy” or “Grace.” Cross Works because it was Christ’s work on the Cross which displayed the mercy and grace of God to us… His Karuna.

Our Story

Karuna CrossWorks is a business-as-mission initiative of World Team, Cambodia in the far northern province of Preah Vihear. Karuna’s mission is to train, disciple and empower local believers. Our values are innovation, stewardship, and transformation.

Coconut shells

Starting in 2007, CrossWorks began by teaching a few students 2 simple necklace designs made from coconut shells. After learning more skills and much practicing, the students began coming up with their own designs. Consequently, we started taking custom orders from others, developing even more new designs. Today, while still very much a small cottage industry, CrossWorks has sent hand-crafted items all around the world. Eventually wooden handicrafts such as hand turned pens, picture frames, boxes and stands were added, using discarded wood thrown away by local furniture makers.

All these crafts are handmade, using simple or self-adapted tools. Materials normally thrown away or burned are turned into beautiful jewelry, ornaments, and wooden items to enjoy for years to come.

Karuna CrossWorks has trained several artisans over the past years, instilling the values of hard work, creativity and attention to detail. The items they create are hand-crafted and each one is unique. While creating beautiful handicrafts, this initiative also helps create an industry for young leaders who are learning new skills including how to manage their time and resources and be good stewards of both. Currently CrossWorks is reorganizing, and our catalog needs to be reworked. We hope to begin a new line of creations, so stay tuned. If interested in any of our handicrafts, use the “Contact Us” button below. Please pray for the Gospel to increase in Cambodia through creative platforms like woodworking and handicraft production.
